Huawei Shows Off Smartphone with 6.1” Full-HD Display

From X-bit Labs: If one have thought that the 5.5” display of Samsung Galaxy Note II is too large for a smartphone, but is too small for a tablet, think again, as Huawei is preparing to release a new “phablet” device next year, which will feature gigantic 6.1” screen with 1920*1080 resolution. The company has already demonstrated the hybrid smartphone; thus, it should be production ready.

At a recent company event, Richard Yu, the chairman of Huawei, demonstrated the company’s new super-phone called Ascend Mate, which is designed to be the biggest and fastest solution by Huawei. The smartphone features massive 6.1” full-HD screen as well as Huawei’s own quad-core HiSilicon K3V3 application processor (four general-purpose ARM Cortex-A9 cores and unknown graphics) with 1.80GHz clock-speed. The device will also feature 4000mAh battery and will be 9.9mm thick. The smartphone will run Google Android operating system.

It remains to be seen how popular a “phablet” with extreme 6.1” screen can actually become as its sizes will be too big for even large pockets. Moreover, it will be completely impossible to use the phone using only one hand.

Huawei will officially launch the Ascend Mate and other new smartphones at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month. Probably, actual sales of the new products will begin before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February. According to media reports, the super-phone will cost around $480.
