AMD Preps New Radeon HD 7800-Series Graphics Card with Tahiti LE Chip

From X-bit Labs: Advanced Micro Devices is reportedly working on a new performance-mainstream graphics card, which will belong to Radeon HD 7800-series solutions, but will utilize cut-down version of code-named Tahiti graphics processing unit, which typically powers Radeon HD 7900-series graphics adapters.

In a bid to prepare a potentially popular graphics solution for the holiday season, AMD is reportedly working on a relatively affordable graphics card based on Tahiti-LE design, a cut-down version of the Radeon HD 7900-series GPUs. Exact specifications are unknown, but HT4U web-site reports that the new solution will be positioned to offer clearly higher performance than the Radeon HD 7870, but lower speed than the Radeon HD 7950.

At present Radeon HD 7870 graphics card cost starting from $239, whereas the Radeon HD 7950 graphics boards start at $309, which means that a Tahiti-LE-based products should be priced at around $275. However, it is unclear whether those cards inherit 384-bit GDDR5 memory bus of the Radeon HD 7900-series.

The AMD Radeon HD 7700-, 7800- and 7900-series graphics cards support all the advantages that the graphics core next (GCN) architecture has to offer, including support for DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2, PCI Express 3.0, AMD Eyefinity 2.0, ultra high-definition output support using DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4a, optimized power consumption, integrated 7.1 audio controller, stereo-3D/Blu-ray 3D support, and other new technologies.
