AMD Set to Release Tahiti LE in Late November

From X-bit Labs: Advanced Micro Devices is set to release its new offering, which will be positioned against Nvidia Corp.'s GeForce GTX 660 Ti in late November The new solution will belong to the Radeon HD 7800-family, but is projected to deliver 15% performance improvement over existing model 7870.

In a bid to prepare a potentially popular graphics solution for the holiday season, AMD is developing a relatively affordable graphics card based on Tahiti-LE design, a cut-down version of the Radeon HD 7900-series GPUs. Exact specifications are unknown, but HT4U web-site reports that the new solution will be developed to offer clearly higher - by 15% to 16% - performance compared to Radeon HD 7870, but evidently lower than the Radeon HD 7950. The novelty is set to be released on November 27, 2012.

At present Radeon HD 7870 graphics cards cost starting from $239, whereas the Radeon HD 7950 graphics boards start at $309, which means that a Tahiti-LE-based products should be priced at around $275. It is unclear whether the code-named Tahiti-LE will inherit 384-bit GDDR5 memory bus of the Radeon HD 7900-series, or will use 256-bit GDDR5 bus.

The AMD Radeon HD 7700-, 7800- and 7900-series graphics cards support all the advantages that the graphics core next (GCN) architecture has to offer, including support for DirectX 11.1, OpenCL 1.2, PCI Express 3.0, AMD Eyefinity 2.0, ultra high-definition output support using DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4a, optimized power consumption, integrated 7.1 audio controller, stereo-3D/Blu-ray 3D support, and other new technologies.
