AMD Slashes Microprocessor Prices

From X-bit Labs: Advanced Micro Devices has slashed prices on virtually all of its desktop microprocessors. The price-cuts vary from symbolical 1% to significant 23%. As a result of the price-reductions, AMD's most powerful central processing unit (CPU) for desktops now costs less than $200. In addition, AMD added FX-4130 chip into its product family.

Just ahead of the back-to-school season, AMD reduced pricing of its most-powerful accelerated processing unit (APU) - AMD A8-3870K - to $101 and its highest-performing eight-core FX-8150 to $183. Ironically, the previous-generation morally outdated six-core Phenom II X6 1100T BE microprocessor is now AMD's highest-priced desktop CPU as it has price-tag of $194.

AMD reduces prices of its central processing units over a month ahead of the launch of AMD A-series Fusion "Trinity" APUs and multi-core FX-series microprocessors based on Bulldozer micro-architecture. Lower prices increase AMD's abilities to compete with Intel Corp., which CPUs often provide higher performance in traditional apps.
